In her highly-anticipated podcast debut, Madonna is opening up about her spirituality.
“You need to be spiritual to be successful. Success is having a spiritual life, period,” the famed singer, 67, says while appearing on the new Monday, September 30, episode of the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, according to a report from People published on Sunday, September 28. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have one.”
During her first ever podcast appearance, Madonna and host Jay Shetty will have an “open conversation” about the singer’s spiritual transformation, per the outlet, which she said began with the birth of her oldest child, daughter Lourdes.
“What have I done for others? That’s really the only way you can be successful in life,” Madonna reportedly says during the same interview, referring to her advocacy work and how it has transformed her life.
“It’s like the greatest amount of light is where there’s darkness and you can reveal the most amount of light,” she continues. “When you’re in a dark room, you turn on the light. When you’re in a room that’s already light, what do you, there’s no, um, effort made. So should we look for darkness?”
She adds: “My soul’s purpose is to reveal light in the world through whatever I do. I want it all, but I want it for the sake of sharing, not to keep it for myself.”
Later in the interview, Madonna also says she’s no longer as concerned about how other people see her as she used to be, and ultimately, her spiritual connection has sustained her through her decades-long career.

“Spiritual wisdom is not helpful when everything’s going your way. It’s helpful when you’re challenged and when you’re happy,” she explains. “It’s helpful to remember that at any given time, in any moment, it could be gone. So don’t take it for granted. Have humility. Radical acceptance is just accepting that what is happening to you is meant to happen to you — and that you’re going to be okay.”
Madonna recently celebrated her 67th birthday in August 2025 with a big trip to Italy alongside Lourdes, 28, her daughter Mercy, 19, and her rumored boyfriend Akeem Morris, 29.
“My dream for many years has been to watch the Palio horse race in Sienna that takes place on my birthday, August 16, since 1482!!” Madonna captioned a reel shared via Instagram of the big day. “There are no words to describe the excitement, the suspense and the pageantry!! Madonna was also on hand to celebrate Morris’ birthday in May 2025. She posted a series of photos via Instagram from a nightclub party held in honor of her beau and captioned the post, which also included a photo of the duo with their arms around one another, ““Happy Birthday to my favorite Taurus ♉️ @akkmorris.”
