Siesta Key alum Kelsey Owens is opening up about her recent pregnancy loss.
“This past week was a really bad one,” Owens, 28, tearfully said in a Friday, September 19, Instagram video. “Max [Strong, my husband] and I have been trying to get pregnant, and we were blessed to find out in August that we were pregnant.”
Owens and Strong got married in May 2024 after four years of dating.
“I did find out yesterday [that] I miscarried,” she said on Friday. “I just want to say that any woman who has gone through this, I am sending so much love. You are not alone. This can feel so lonely ‘cause we’re told not to share about this [until you are 12 weeks along]. No matter what, this baby’s a part of my story.”
A reported one in four pregnancies will end in a miscarriage, according to the Mayo Clinic, although that number is believed to be higher as many individuals can miscarry without ever knowing they were pregnant.
In her Friday video, Owens broke down in tears and revealed that “it’s the first time” she’s been pregnant. She also shared that she had announced her pregnancy to her and Strong’s family ahead of her miscarriage.
“It will always be so special to me, and I’m just praying for anyone else going through it that you guys will have healthy beautiful babies one day — and that will be the same for me,” she said. “Please keep me in your prayers, and I’ll be praying so much for all the other women going through it.”
Owens further opened about grieving her pregnancy loss in a lengthy Instagram caption.
“Even though my pregnancy ended in miscarriage, it still matters,” she wrote. “It’s part of my story, my heart, my hope and my prayer that one day I’ll get to hold my healthy baby in my arms. The exact child God always meant for Max and I to have.”
Owens also defended her decision to the news of her miscarriage with her social media followers.
“I’ve always shared the good, the bad and the messy parts of my life with y’all, and I don’t plan to stop now,” Owens concluded her upload. “This chapter has been scary, lonely and absolutely heartbreaking, but I know there are incredible blessings ahead. I love you, lil one.”
Strong, for his part, led Owen’s social media followers in sharing supportive messages in the comments section.
“Love you always and forever 🙏🏼,” Strong replied.
Fellow Siesta Key alum Madisson Hausburg, who previously suffered a stillbirth with son Elliot, added, “Kels and Max, I love you both so much.”
Taking to her Instagram Stories several hours later, Owens further thanked her friends and loved ones for “the prayers, kindness and making this a place” to share her experience.
“Hearing other women’s stories this past week helped me feel less alone when I hadn’t even told friends,” she added via her Instagram Stories. “I truly believe God has a plan and this baby will forever be the first Baby Strong.”
