He had been alive for roughly 48 hours when a tornado tore through the area near Gun Lake in Michigan — and somehow, buried in the wreckage, the tiny kitten survived.
Rescuers pulled the newborn from the storm debris and rushed him to Kittens In The Mitten, a rescue group that immediately recognized the severity of his condition. In a Facebook post, the organization shared the kitten’s story with an urgent plea for support.
“Last night, a tiny life was pulled from the rubble after the devastating tornado… and today, he’s fighting for his life.”
They named him Baby Twister.
The Baby Kitten’s Fragile Start Following the Tornado
At approximately 2 days old, Baby Twister arrived at the rescue in critical condition. He was dehydrated and lethargic — and his situation had been complicated by well-meaning finders who had given him evaporated milk before bringing him in, which is not appropriate for newborn kittens.
“Just 2 days old, this fragile little soul has already endured more than most ever will,” the rescue group wrote.
The team immediately began medical intervention. They administered fluids to combat dehydration, worked to stabilize his body temperature, initiated careful feeding and started him on antibiotics. Every step was delicate, given how young and vulnerable the kitten was when he arrived.
The Rescue Team’s Fight for Baby Twister
A ViralHog video documenting the rescue shows Baby Twister being gently handled after he was found. The video’s caption tells the story simply: “Twister spent his first day on earth being swept up by a tornado and tossed around. Thankfully, a woman found him and called a rescue in time to save him.”
That phone call may have made all the difference. But even with professional care now underway, Kittens In The Mitten has been candid about the road ahead.
“Despite everything … he is not doing the best,” the group shared.
His condition remains unstable, and the rescue team has described his prognosis as uncertain. They say Baby Twister is still “far from out of the woods.” The organization has committed to round-the-clock monitoring, treating every hour as critical for the kitten they’ve called a “tiny warrior.”
