A member of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is confirming claims they’ve approached Donald Trump’s administration in the hopes of securing a presidential pardon.

“It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” attorney Nicole Westmoreland said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday, August 5.

When asked how Diddy, 55, felt about his chances of receiving a pardon, Westmoreland shared that the music mogul “is a very hopeful person and I believe that he remains hopeful.”

Earlier this month, Trump addressed the speculation about a potential pardon for Diddy when speaking to NewsMax. The president stated that it would most likely not occur, but commented on Diddy’s legal troubles.

“Well he was essentially, sort of, half-innocent. I don’t know what they do that he’s still in jail or something,” Trump told Rob Finnerty during the sit-down. “He was celebrating a victory but I guess it wasn’t as good a victory.”

Trump also addressed his and Diddy’s relationship dynamic after he decided to pursue politics.

“I was very friendly with him, get along with him great, seemed like a nice guy, didn’t know him well,” Trump recalled. “But when I ran for office he was very hostile. But it was hard, we’re human beings and we don’t like to have things cloud our judgement, right? But when you knew someone and you were fine and then you run for office and he made some terrible statements… so I don’t know, it makes it more difficult to do.”
